HOW IT WORKS

The City of Trenton’s Wastewater Treatment Plant has been in operation since 1964. The City operates an Activated Sludge Treatment Facility. On an average day, 4 million gallons per day are treated with a design capacity of 6.5 million gallons per day. Belt filter presses and Landfill is used for sludge disposal.

The plant consists of:

  • 1 chlorine contact chamber
  • 2 belt filter presses
  • 2 sludge holding tanks
  • 2 sludge thickening tanks
  • 4 aeration basins
  • 4 final clarifiers
  • 5 primary settling tanks
  • An aerated grit chamber

The City also operates:

  • 4 sewage lift stations,
  • 1 emergency storm lift station,
  • and a 20-million gallon storage basin.

All located in various sections of the city. This modern facility is located on 5.5 acres at 1801 Van Horn Road, Trenton, MI.

MISSION OF THE WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT

The mission of the Trenton Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is to protect the public and the environment from the harmful effects of raw sewage and contaminated water that can be generated by those living and working in the City of Trenton. This is accomplished by treating the raw wastewater in a manner that minimizes any harmful effect to the Michigan water system or the environment. The City is fully committed to bringing together the necessary resources to accomplish this mission and to providing safe water to our residents and businesses.
